Picasso plays with flashlight

Posted by French Blast on 6/30/2009 03:21:00 PM 0 comments
We, at French Blast, presented a cool video with flash light and snowboarders a while ago. But someone had the same ideo 60 years ago. Look at the following drawings made with light by Picasso. LIFE photographer Gjon Mili visited Picasso in 1949. Mili showed the artist some of his photographs of ice skaters with tiny lights affixed to their skates jumping in the dark -- and Picasso's mind began to race. The series of photographs that follows -- Picasso’s light drawings -- were made with a small flashlight in a dark room; the images vanished almost as soon as they were created.

Sustainable fashion: The uniform project - one dress, 365 days

Posted by French Blast on 6/22/2009 04:48:00 PM 0 comments
Sheena Matheiken launched in May 2009 an original project fashion: The Uniform Project. She will use the same dress during one year! Let's her explain her project and her idea:

"Starting May 2009, I have pledged to wear one dress for one year as an exercise in sustainable fashion. Here’s how it works: There are 7 identical dresses, one for each day of the week. Every day I will reinvent the dress with layers, accessories and all kinds of accouterments, the majority of which will be vintage, hand-made, or hand-me-down goodies. Think of it as wearing a daily uniform with enough creative license to make it look like I just crawled out of the Marquis de Sade's boudoir."

The dress:

still the same dress, but accesorised:

The aim of this project is not only to have fun, it's also a year-long fundraiser for the Akanksha Foundation, a grassroots movement that is revolutionizing education in India. At the end of the year, all contributions will go toward Akanksha’s School Project to fund uniforms and other educational expenses for slum children in India.
You can contribute by donating to the cause but also by donating your accessories that you want to get rid off! You have many ways to follow the project through the year: twitter, facebook, flickr and website.

Fashion: New french label - La Commune de Paris (1871)

Posted by French Blast on 6/03/2009 04:18:00 PM 2 comments
At the end of May, a new french label was launched in Paris called La Commune de Paris (1871). I don't know if you know what Paris Commune is. It's actually a revolutionary event in the french history where workers fighted for their rights. Through this name, the label La Commune de Paris (1871) refers itself as "a bastion of a self-declared fashion". Do yourself a favor and visit the shop and their blog.
